Ideal destination for a day out

Originally built as a castle in 1867 and now home to the Benedictine order of nuns, this Abbey and 1,000 acre Estate is steeped in history with tales of tragedy and romance, engineering initiatives, royal visits, spirituality and education.
Experience the Victorian atmosphere of the Abbey, Gothic Church and Head Gardener’s House. Enjoy beautiful tree lined avenues, nature trails and lakeshore walks.
Explore the magical 6 acre Victorian Walled Garden where only Victorian varieties of flowers and vegetables are grown. Vegetables and herbs from the garden are used in the café where traditional home cooked food is made to the recipes of the Benedictine nuns.

The Tea House by the Walled Garden is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views over the Connemara National Park.
Kylemore Craft and Design Shop stocks the best of Irish fashion, jewellery and gifts as well as beautiful Kylemore Abbey Pottery made in the on-site Pottery Studio. You can also buy chocolates, soaps and skincare products handmade by the Benedictine nuns at Kylemore.

Sit back and relax in the award winning Mitchell’s café or the beautifully located Garden Tea House. Home baking is a speciality with traditional scones; fruit pies and crumbles always ready to delight!
