Telling the story of the Irish Great Hunger

Following a € 5 million capital programme, a new state-of-the-art National Famine Museum will tell the complete story of the Great Famine. To truly understand the parallel stories of the Irish famine visitors are encouraged to also visit the 18th century Palladian mansion to see how the landlord and his family lived.

The walled garden gives a unique insight into horticultural practices and garden architecture from the 1740s to the present day and children’s trail gives younger legs a chance to run and investigate the ancient forest. Guides are available for the House and Museum.
