The Shannon Estuary is a spectacular and unspoilt estuary located just off the Wild Atlantic Way. This area of remarkable natural beauty is where Ireland’s longest river – the mighty Shannon flows into the azure water of the Atlantic Ocean.

Along the Shannon Estuary drive, you will find delightful towns, pretty villages and world-famous shore fishing sites. It is a looped route of approximately 207km and incorporates the following locations: Bunratty, Ennis, Clarecastle, Ballynacally, Killadysert, Labasheeda, Killimer, Tarbert, Foynes, Askeaton, Kilcornan and Limerick City.

The Shannon Car Ferry can take you across the Estuary in 20 minutes, connecting Tarbert in Co. Kerry and Killimer in Co. Clare. While crossing, keep an eye out for the bottlenose dolphins that live in the waters of the estuary.
