Fethard is undoubtedly the best example of a medieval walled town in Ireland. Founded around 1200 by the Norman Lord William de Braose, the Town Walls, Holy Trinity Church, the Augustinian Abbey and Fethard Tholsel are amongst the reminders of Fethard’s long history which survive to this day.
Fethard is home to the world-famous Coolmore Stud, Mouse Morris Racing and many more stables. You will see a beautiful town set against a backdrop of horse-filled fields with the mountain of Slievenamon keeping watch in the distance. It’s a place for all ages to enjoy!
Located in the heart of the Golden Vale, the medieval walled town of Fethard is only 15 km from The Rock of Cashel and a 15 minute drive from Exit 8, Cashel / Fethard, on the M8 Motorway. It is easily accessed from Cahir, Clonmel and Carrick-on-Suir along The Butler Trail. It is approximately one hour and 15 minutes from Cork and two hours from Dublin.
