Walk in the footsteps of pioneering aviators & Hollywood icons in the birthplace of Irish Coffee!

The award-winning Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum excitingly captures the unique story of how Foynes was once the centre of the aviation world through a comprehensive range of informative displays & interactive exhibits including an upgraded and extended aviation museum with stat-of-the-art technology, 100-seater vintage-style cinema, and new flight simulators. Walk in the footsteps of JFK, Bob Hope, Eleanor Roosevelt & many other dignitaries, movie stars & refugees who landed in Foynes during World War II. Visitors have the once in a lifetime opportunity to board the world’s only Boeing 314 Flying Boat and to try their hand at being a pilot on our new flight simulators.

An exclusive Maureen O’Hara exhibition is dedicated to preserving the memory of Ireland’s most iconic movie star. A treasure trove of Hollywood dress collection and movie memorabilia, including her Oscar and the Quiet Man movie set. Her husband, famed aviator Charles Blair, flew flying boats into Foynes from 1942 to 1945 and Maureen officially opened the Flying Boat Museum on the 8th July 1989.

Step back in time to 1943 & watch a 3D Holographic show recreating the night Chef Joe Sheridan invented Irish Coffee. Taste an original Irish Coffee in O‘Regan’s Restaurant which offers home-baked cuisine in a beautiful 1940’s setting. Our dedicated Irish Coffee Lounge allows you to explore the origins of the world-famous drink.

Explore the history of the river Shannon by visiting the Maritime Museum & savour the panoramic views of the Shannon Estuary from the top of the Control Tower.

The museum was re-developed in September 2023 and features a whole new aviation museum, an expanded Maureen O’Hara exhibition, a 100-seater premium cinema and more.

Foynes is nestled along the banks of the Estuary, a recommended Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point.
