A small zoo with a big heart
A small, zoo-licenced animal facility based just outside Newcastle West, home to a range of exotic and domestic animals, many of which are ex-pets from the exotic pet trade. All the money brought in from visitors coming to visit goes back into the site and caring for the animals that call Wild Encounters their home.
A diverse and growing variety of domestic and exotic animals can be seen. Enjoy immersive and entertaining keeper chats and animal feeds throughout the day, there’s plenty to see and do for a few hours at the mini zoo.

Useful Information
- The Mini-Zoo is predominantly an outdoor venue. There are some covered viewing areas off certain enclosures sporadically around the site, along with a couple of more sheltered buildings such as the small mammal barn and the reptile house.
- Visitor pets are not allowed on the premises.
- Daily keeper chats are available, check for up-to-date times
Getting There
A short drive outside Newcastle West and West of Kilmeedy. From Limerick follow the signs for Newcastle West and then head down the Dromcollogher road. Follow signs for Castlemahon GAA and the mini zoo is opposite the GAA.
